Subject: Osteogenesis Imperfecta ??

From: Charles M. Blitzer

7 yo who has had 3 separate upper extremity fx's in 2 years (2 in 3 months). All are low energy falls. Bone density is WNL. Family hx is negative for metabolic bone disease. What are indications for work-up for OI? What should one do to investigate?

Thanks.

Hi Charlie,

With regard to OI, there's great info at the OI foundation. If fx healing is satis and w/o deformity, etc I'd probably discuss with parents, copy pediatrician, and proceed with eval if either are interested, or if he then had further fxs, or anything suggestive on detailed physical exam (teeth, sclerae, etc.).
