There are several prerequisites for the use of this experimental software :
1) Equipment - For the new cross-platform TR version the preliminary requirements will be WIN XP Pro or MacOSX clients with a minimum of 256 MB RAM, 10 GB HD running MetaCard and a WIN XP Pro or WIN2000 Server 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD running MySQL/PHP, Apache2 and SlimFTPd".
2) Internet Connection - For the purposes of remote support, debugging and upgrading the program, there needs to be a gateway to the internet (the computers must have an IP address). Internet access, preferably through a Hospital VPN (virtual private network) internet gateway is required to facilitate remote servicing of the TR program with Timbuktu software. Timbuktu is a highly secure remote control software which will permit support and upgrading of the system in such a way as to obviate the need for multiple site visits. The TCP ports required for such a connection would be 1417-1420 and UDP port 407.
An internet connection is also required to permit TR "knowledge-coupling" routines which combine on-line OTA educational resources with data collection procedures. - e.g.:
3) Data Entry - There must be a commitment from the department to directly enter data at the resident and attending or fellow level.
4) Data Exchange - There must be a commitment from the department to pursue a direct connection to the hospital network in order to permit direct input from the ER, OR, Wards, Radiology and Clinics as well as exchange data with the Hospital Information System, Trauma Surgery and OR databases.
5) Digital Images - There must be a commitment from the department to archive related digital graphical data - preferably by a network link to the Radiology PACS system.
6) TR Support - There needs to be a mechanism for funding site visits by support members of the TR team in order to implement # 4 & 5. A $250 per diem (plus expenses) is suggested in the beginning . If the program successfully meets expectations, there should be graduation to a monthly/yearly service contract.
7) HWB Data Contribution - A copy of the depersonalized data files collected would be contributed to the on-line national database of the HWB Foundation (click database).
8) Non Disclosure - End users of the software would be required to sign non-disclosure agreements forbidding the copy or further distribution of the software.
